Applicants to first grade must be six (6) years old by September 1 of the year they would attend Greenhill.

Your child may also be considered for Primer during the admission process. For more information about Primer, please see the Primer page here.

Application Process

List of 9 items.

  • Submit your Application Form and Fee

Submit your online application, including the $50 non-refundable application fee, by December 9, 2022. If fees for your application present a hardship for your family, please contact our Director of Financial Aid Amy deBorst.
  • Complete the Parent/Guardian Questionnaire

At Greenhill, we are guided by our mission: In a diverse and inclusive community, Greenhill prepares and inspires students to lead authentic, purposeful lives. As you think about joining our community, the Admission Committee is interested in learning more about your child, your family, and understanding what brought you to Greenhill.
  • Schedule your Parent/Guardian Meeting

These meetings are for families who are applying to Greenhill for the first time to grades PK-first only. This meeting is an opportunity for us to learn a bit more about your child and family and it provides an opportunity for parents/guardians to ask questions of a member of the Greenhill staff. Meetings will be conducted in person unless parents/guardians request a virtual meeting. They typically last 20-30 minutes and involve only the parent(s)/guardian(s). Again, we will not conduct parent meetings for current families or for reapplicants from a previous year.

To select a meeting day and time, please register using the Parent/Guardian Meeting calendar in your checklist.
  • Register with Collaborative Academic Testing Services (CATS)

Applicants for Prekindergarten through first grade must complete CATS testing. Please register online directly with CATS here. We encourage you to register early. Test results can be shared with other schools where the child is applying. The cost of this test is $300, and it is not included in the Greenhill application fee. Please contact CATS directly if inquiring about a reduced fee. They will require proof that you have applied to Greenhill, so please be prepared to send them the confirmation email you received when you applied.
  • Register for your First Grade Admission Test

Please register for the ISAAD First Grade Test here. The Independent Schools Admission Association of Dallas (ISAAD) has collaborated to offer virtual at-home achievement testing during the month of January for first grade candidates applying to consortium member schools. Students only need to register once and should only test one time. Test results can be shared with other ISAAD consortium schools where the child is applying. This testing must be completed by February 6, 2023. The cost of this test is $175. If this fee presents a hardship for your family, please contact our Director of Financial Aid Amy deBorst
  • Schedule your Lower School Observation

All first grade applicants will need to schedule an in-person observation at Greenhill. These student observation visits will take place on Saturdays in January. Scheduling for these observations is coming soon, and you will be notified when scheduling opens and becomes available.
  • Request Transcripts/Grades/Progress Reports

Once you have submitted your Application Form and after December 1, you will have access to the Transcript/Grades/Progress Reports request within your parent portal checklist. The request form will not be accessible before December 1 to ensure that the request is not made to the school too early. We want to have records that include the most up-to-date progress reports prior to our January 27 deadline.

The request form will ask for the name and email address of the person at your child’s current school who is responsible for sending transcripts, grades, or progress reports. They will receive an email that contains a link to submit the documents directly to Greenhill. If your school does not have transcripts, grades, or progress reports, they can indicate that when they open the request link.
  • Request a Teacher Evaluation

Once you have submitted your Application Form and after December 1, you will have access to the Teacher Evaluation request within your parent portal checklist. The request form will not be accessible before December 1 because we want to make sure that the request is not made to the teacher before they have time to get to know your child.

You will be asked to enter your child’s teacher’s name and email address on the request form, and they will receive an electronic, confidential Teacher Evaluation Form to complete and submit. The teacher will be able to fill out the form electronically and send it back to us within our system. It is a good idea to let the teacher know ahead of time to expect the request. The deadline for the receipt of the confidential form by Greenhill School is January 27, 2023.
  • Apply for Financial Aid (Optional)

If you are considering applying for financial aid, please indicate that by completing the Financial Aid Form in the “Optional Steps” section of your application checklist in the parent portal. You must complete the full Financial Aid Application by February 15, 2023. Families of admitted students who apply by the deadline will receive their financial aid grant at the same time as their admission decision, on March 10, 2023.

While we are able to accept Financial Aid applications after the deadline, we cannot guarantee that funds will remain available. If you have any questions about financial aid, please contact Director of Financial Aid Amy deBorst at 972-628-5522.
